Nike Hyperdunk vs Nike Hyperdunk 2010 Comparison

Nike Hyperdunk vs Nike Hyperdunk 2010 Comparison

The Nike Hyperdunk revolutionized basketball footwear in 2008 to say the least. Its extremely lightweight silhouette became the first basketball sneaker to possess two of Nike’s latest technologies: Flywire and Lunar Foam. Although it ultimately became an instant classic, the Nike Hyperdunk possessed its fair share of weaknesses as well.

The newly-designed Nike Hyperdunk 2010 obviously thrives in the some of the areas where its predecessor lacks (see our Performance Review: Nike Hyperdunk 2010). However, does this undoubtedly crown the Nike Hyperdunk 2010 as the better sneaker of the two? Check out our Nike Hyperdunk vs Nike Hyperdunk 2010 Comparison below to see the similarities and differences between the two player-friendly sneakers.

One will notice a complete difference when placing your foot in either one of these shoes. The Nike Hyperdunk positions Lunar Foam under the sole causing the foot to feel as if its on top of a very flat surface. There is little-to-no elevation of one’s foot which decreases the comfort level. As for the Nike Hyperdunk 2010, Zoom Air technology is undoubtedly an upgrade. The full-foot cushioning system is ultra-responsive and provides your foot with an unmatched level of comfort and stability.

The lacing structure on both sneakers serves much more of a purpose that a complimentary design; it seems to effect the lockdown support trait of each sneaker. The Nike Hyperdunk possesses a very flexible, elastic-like lacing structure, and it allows one to firmly grip its athletic round laces. With that said, your foot feels very secure in the confines of the inner sleeve when laced properly. On the contrary, the flat shoelaces seen on the Nike Hyperdunk 2010 are not as easy to corral when securing the foot. We also noticed minimal indents and flexes in certain areas (toe & side panels) when lacing this sneaker up.

    • lakers 2011 champs

  • Pops Williams

damnn dats live the way they show the shoes from 2010 and 2008 the close ups 2

I am an avid basketball fan as well as basketball shoe fan. I’m keen on the fact that the hyperdunk 2010 only weighs 11.5 oz, which is 2 oz less than the previous hyperdunk. My only apprehension is the stability. Although, they say that the flywire which is being used will contain your foot and hold up. Doesn’t hurt “Kobe Bryant” best player in the game, endorses flywire. I give the Hyperdunk 2010 thumbs up.

    • sn34ker

thats bc kobe gets a new pair every game!

  • Dragonle7

Hyperdunks look better than Hyperdunk 2010s imo

  • johnny

The OG's are hands down flat out ridiculous.

  • achmedmirza

    Agreed with Dragonle7.

  • andrew

    Hyperdunks.

  • Brian

Great comparison. I'd go with the more comfortable and stable out of the two. They both look great, but its not about looks when your out there playing.

  • GboyFresh

the hyperdunk 2010s material is ridiculous the plastic like material on the side makes the the swoosh and other writing on the side (such as 'flywire') smudge easily, the only one hyperdunk 2010 that i haven't seen smudge is the black, but the white and highlighters smudge extremely easily, so the swoosh is basically gone…

  • jay

i have the exact pair of black hyperdunks shown here. this review is very solid. my only knock against the orig hyperdunks is that bc the heel unit is lunar foam, once it wears out, there is a significant amount of stress on your heel, even if you play on your toes.

  • mike m.

i'll find out the moment i got new hd 2010

  • leavinclevelin

as far as looks go i say og hyperdunks. i wish i could find me a decent colored pair somewhere.

  • dr. orthotic

those white hyperdunks are just sooo crispy. Wow!

  • dr. orthotic

btw, it seems like the hyperdunk 2010 outperforms the original hyperdunk as far as cushioning/traction. and on top of that the TPU of the 2010's give more support than the originals. So i'll go with the 2010s.

i love this sneaker! my name.Come and see more shoes.

  • Ezuma

This is great; I appreciate this. I'm looking for some new kicks and I think I was just ushered to my decision. The original hyperdunks were great shoes as is. I can't wait to set my feet in the new joints. And just to think there's so much ingenuity in shoe design; it's fascinating.

  • slamfan4life

gotta go with the OGs…..got a pair of blue and white ones……sickest bball shoe ever

  • Jamari Bacy

This was great! I'm in need of some new basketball shoes, and was not even considering the hyperdunks. Now, after seeing the upgrades that have been made, I feel like the manufacturer is actually passionate about developing a shoe that meets my comfort requirements! Reducing discomfort and pain from the foot even increases the longevity of my basketball days! The Hyperdunks are currently my top choice for the next new basketball shoe I am going to purchase. Awesome comparison, guys. Thanks for the heads up!

After reading the differences between Eric Avar's Hyperdunk and Leo Chang's Hyperdunk 2010, I can clearly say, Hyperdunk 2010 is a better looking and better performing shoe. The Perfs, the Skinwire, the Zoom instead of the Lunar. I'd go with the Hyperdunk 2010.

  • Tomson

    Hi,

I bought them and played only half the training. Unfortunately the shoes part just above the heel support was irritating the skin so much, that I couldn't play anymore. The upon edge just above the heel support is too skinny or sharp, that when You are running and jumping, then Your foot is moving and the edge cut my skin so deeply even through sportsocks. Anyway every players foot is different and You have to try and play first. No negative emotions, just my foot is not perfect for these shoes.

  • Brandonsdarkness

I gladly just bought th old team usa ones for 50 bucks. saving about 40 bucks in this economy is a must for a college student lol
