End of an Era: The 13 Best Allen Iverson Shoes

Allen Iverson Reebok

Back in 1996 Reebok took a chance on a brash Virginian out of Georgetown to carry their brand and basketball line. Despite his checkered past and unwillingness to be what the league or world wanted him to be, Reebok signed a young Allen Iverson to a 10 year $50 million contract. His debut shoe the Question was a success and one of the few times a rookie sported a signature sneaker in their season opener. From then on they would release a series of Answer sneakers each season and Bubba Chuck would re-up with Reebok signing a lifetime contract with the brand. Over the weekend a source at Reebok confirmed that the infamous Reebok Answer line has ended with no more new models to follow. With the Answer 13 being the last model made for Iverson we recount the 13 best Iverson shoes from Reebok.

13. Reebok Answer IV White/Black

Reebok Answer IV

Reebok Answer IV White/Black

The Reebok Answer IV was one of the best looking and best performance models featuring full length DMX cushioning and zip-up closure. Iverson would wear this model in the 2000-01 season where he would lead the league in scoring and win the MVP Award. He also was voted a starter in the All-Star Game where he would take home game MVP honors. While AI accomplished a lot in the AIV, this colorway will best be remember for his stepping over Tyronn Lue during the Game 1 victory in the 2001 NBA Finals.

This article is so dope. Iversons were the first shoes I can remember being really excited about. They got me caring about shoes. LeBron's however were the shoes that got me into really collecting

    • jumpman

you cannot seriously say that lebron's got you into collecting kicks first of all basketball wise, they look like they're made for a fashion show too much extra stuff that is not needed for a basketball shoe, and i would never actually rock lebrons, retro jordans are the sickest shoes out there

  • Herm

The Questions are right up there with any Air Jordan, IMO. I agree #1 is the dopest! Great read, had that whole nostalgic feel to it.

  • yaboyprimo

yo man when i was playin ball in high school all i wanted was to be AI man and if u was a pg/sg and u aint have height like that u most likely wanted to be him too lol sad to see the line go i personally had the questions in jr high school and the answer 4s when i played ball in high school definitely alot of memories in this line..and as a player one of the best without a ring period

  • KWAPT

  • D-Wash

    classic..

  • Oatmeal

I aint even gonna try to express a well reasoned opinion on his shoe, it's pointless on a site riddled with phantom haters, I just wanna say he's one of the best damn ballers to ever set foot on NBA courts. Dude owned it.

  • lilrip133

the pearlized questions were the first shoe i bought with my own hard earned money. if i had enough room on my arm, i would get the famous jordan cross tatted on me. that moment defined my life as i know it

  • Dcast

the only good iverson shoe is the #1 and it's colorways. Poor allen, he might as well have been in kswiss.

  • theshoehunter

    A.I = G.O.A.T

AI is the reason im in the shoe game now used to cop all his kicks, they fell off after VI but w.e

  • Jay

Damn it is actually over for AI?! I thought he would eventually come out and say somethings and a team would pick him up, he would go to to work in training camp steal that starting spot, play in the right offense for him and get 23 and 6 and help his team to the playoffs…. U will be missed AI, I just saw the Questions yesterday and damn near shed a tear, best shoes ever….. AI= top 25 ever.

  • kt0

how did the (ROY) rookie of the year og answers get left out of this. wack. AI is still dope. Stern is black ballin him.

  • Big Al

Reebok Question 1's and Answers 1's are his best sneakers ever!

  • i h8 bron

is and will always be my favorite player of all time..shoes were always dope in his younger days

pound for pound the greatest player ever

  • dr. orthotic

for me it's a toss-up between the Question low-tops and the Answer 4s. Takes me back…

  • jmslui

No doubt, AI is one of the sickest to step foot on the court. First kicks I can remember getting were the ROY answers in white red gold in 7th grade at the outlets in Bellingham. Got me hooked to sneakers, questions were my favorites after that, picked up the IV's in navy and white and ended with the all star Vs. Great post.

  • atomic sushi

Reebok Question Mid White/Pearl Navy and Reebok Question Mid White/Red are my favorites. my brother got the Reebok Question Mid White/Red when they were re-released during the 10th anniversary of AI's sneaker line. I wish they would release them again. in size 12. So i can have them. cause they only have until size 11 in my foreign country. which sucks.

i hate the ones with the speckled midsole. it's so gay. it's like being sprinkled with fairy dust.

  • Freshdakid

all Iversons are ugly except the questions

  • (216)Cleveland

The yellow and blue all-star Questions (Golden State) were/are dope and the blue Vegas all star joints are nice to. I love the Questions but I hate that they turned yellow down the front part by the strings. AI is definitely one of the best with a great line of kicks.

  • e smoove

great player. great shoes. questions can be put up there with some of the best Js

  • From Sole2Sole

Fell victim to "The Answer 1" – WHT/RED colorway man. Those were the ones that twisted my arm. I always liked the Q-mids and saw them on peoples feet and admired the hillside contour but there was something about The Answer 1s to where I got hyped enough to snag a pair. Before then I nEver even thought about buying a pair of Reeboks at all.
Before Iversons came out the Only Reeboks I ever payed attention to were the Pumps. The Answer 1s just got me with their bold design and reminiscent Jordan III back ends with all that heavy design back there- I was loving that. Thought the lacing system was pretty slick-the closer you tie them together, the logo too on the front would come into play. The soles were also to die for. And when I actually played in them they were nothing I ever played in before. I was always dunking in Flights or J's around that time but The Answer 1s were the first shoes that made me break away from the whole J/Flight pack and made me realize there are other kix that cater to your feet just as well if not better(depending on your style of play).
And they were/are soO comfortable for casual wear. The bouncy cushion was crazy on point and the bending of the sole was lovely. The only problem was once you played in them it was a struggle to switch back to anything else bc of how unique in fit they were. It would throw off your game to play in anything else(or at least me) It also seemed to make your feet slide around on the inside but in reality it just gave you more flexing for your foot to work with when you cut, or did a major jump stop to get up so you had to be sure to tie them juuust right. Still have them till this day with beautiful battle scars inside the box. They aren't even on ice. They are ok kept and could be used to still play in (plenty of life left) but for some reason I kept the box and they remain there till this day. I think I got hyped and bought them for a tourn, wore them a while longer them put them on the shelf as other kix came out and just have never touched them. I wanted the black colorway bad but again, other kix came out and I moved on. Still like the black colorway when I see them tho, very nice.

I have to pay homage. Reebok Answer IV's were the first pair of $100 sneakers I bought myself in the 6th grade, memories I tell you.

How could they leave off the Golden State All-Star Questions?
Those and any of the Bethel high school colorway Iversons? Not really much that can be matched with them clothes-wise, but they were nice.
And, I know this is a scarce one, but in Marshalls the last 2 years, there was a AI low top that wasnt a basketball sneaker that was really nice.
And why no love for the XI through XIII? Maybe because AI didn't play much in them, Reebok didn't promote them, and the stores didn't carry them.

  • Whatryoutalkingabout

Who we kidding here? These shoes were 2nd rate compared to Nike in the 90s. People who couldn't afford Nike, had their mom pick out their shoes or were just lame bought Reeboks.

  • grownANDsexy

wow! end of an era indeed. good article Nikekicks! The 8th page was the funniest out of all of them… bling-bling 65,000 kicks? lol Don't even remember that happening

  • jocrak

RETRO THE 4s!!!!!!!! PLEASSEEE!! love them kix… got me into keepin the kicks clean back durrin freshman yr of college… girls love em

  • Mikey D

Yeah, this article is a bit saddening, I didn't know they off'd the contract, I've been getting his shoes every year…got 20 something pairs, 3 pairs of the questions (2 Low, 1 Mid). I might have to put my 13s to rest since they might really be his last shoe. I'm probably the only dude still rocking AIs on the court.

Another note: this article hit on like 3 different shoes, I knew the Questions were gonne be the top spot but they took like half the article…would've been cool if they pointed out all 13 of his shoes and how they got popular or how they didn't. But still, great article.
