What Sneaker Should Scottie's Statue Sport?

Although Scottie Pippen played in Michael Jordan’s shadow for most of his career, no one can deny his individual accolades, statistics, tenacity and versatility. The Chicago Bulls organization will make sure Pippen will forever be recognized by giving him a bronze statue of his own inside the United Center. This statue, which will be complete by the end of the 2010-2011 NBA season, will join MJ’s statue which stands outside of the United Center.

As we all know, MJ’s statue sports the Air Jordan IX, a sneaker Jordan never played in due to his first retirement. However, what will artist Omri and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany (sculptors of MJ’s statue) place on Pippen’s feet? Our Nice Kicks staff compiled a list of 21 significant sneakers Scottie wore over his 17-year career. Which sneaker should represent Scottie’s productive career on his statue?

Case: Pippen wore the Nike Air Flight Lite while helping the Chicago Bulls capture their first of six titles. He will always be remembered for applying full-court pressure to Magic Johnson during this postseason.

    i dont know about you guys, but even though these are all great kicks, i think it should be a shoe that actually got his name on it. I thinking the Pippen 1s for a few reasons:

    - his first sig shoe

    - won a championship in them

    - looks kinda Pippen-ish

    - helped MJ off the court after the "Flu Game"

      Good points. I agree, i wana say the Air More Uptempo, Air Max Uptempo. I LOVE the Air more Uptempos but the Pippen 1s good hard an they got the points u just said behind em. Good attention to detail.

    i am cool with both, but the M.U.T. was the shoe I always associate with Scottie first. Best thing to do would be to ask him i suppose.

    Xtremely diff decision but….
    depending on how the statue would look, the shoe would have to be just as importantly recognized in a special way much like the MJ statue was with the '94s being portrayed………

    The Air More Uptempo would be ideal because we would all be able to see that big "AIR" font graphic we all know so well across the side of the shoes because both male and female were wearing them when they came out in Every color, so those are veery recognizable to a mass audience from a certain era. I remember Pippen as more of a quick slasher/quick rise player so those would be the only Uptempos I would consider otherwise put him in more of an aerodynamic shoe that would and has always complimented Jordan = Flight. Which brings me to the next option…..

    There are various good Flights he wore but the only Flights I would consider would be The Air Flight Lite 1 because he helped bring the Bulls their first title in those and they are the most eye appealing Flights he wore imho. While MJ sported the much heavy duty design with holes in the tongue mid/highs with toggle for laces(love those J's btw), Pippen sported a clean all black with white accents in all the right places pair of Flights with a upside down triangle "F" on the tongue- low tops. Very smooth looking pair of flights that would look good on the statue with that gap cut across the Nike swoosh on the sneaker. The Air Flight II's wooould be ideal because he helped bring the 2nd championship along with the Olympic gold medal and he was peaking as a player but that would be more of a accomplishment thing sneaker wise not design wise. Those particular flights wouldn't be so flattering on the statue I don't think but would be great to put because of what he did in them.

    I think the The Air Pippen II and IV would be the Cleanest of the Pippen signature series to portray. The Pippen II is the cleanest Pippen shoe portraying the Nike swoosh in a great place on the shoe<<its not so low or off behind, it's place just right. The Pippen IV would lean towards a "Do You Know"- image shoe wise but more importantly you could play with the "PIP" logo (raised or engraved) on the shoes of the statue which would be really cool signature wise. I always thought the "PiP" logo was very creative for him signature wise, if only they created it sooner for him.

    The Nike Air Swift would be a decent choice because 1….he was a swift player,and 2nd….it would compliment the Jordan statue where MJ is wearing the '94(IX) with his accompliments on the bottom thus having Pippen in the '94 Air Swift. I would have this mind only if you want to compliment/connect the MJ statue in some way since they were such a tag team but this is about S.Pippens accomplishments so little thought should maybe go into that, just a possibility. If you really wanted to go off you could just put the clean looking Jordan Xs pippen wore in '95 to do that and have both statues posing clean with back to back '94/'95 J's.

    I really feel all the shoes Pippen wore during his time where his SIGNATURE shoes to a degree because when they came out, although they weren't technically his shoes like the Pippen series were….when they came out people would refer to them as "The Pippens"- especially the Air Flight Lite 1's for sure.
    Overall I'm glad to see Scottie Pippen getting the recognition for his crazy improvement on his game since '87. I can not Wait to see the statue and either way, I'm sure great thought will go into which shoes will go on the feet and if not I could see why as well but hopefully that won't happen. Hopefully they'll detail it from top to bottom. Including figuring out weather to put a butter on him, a flat top, or a low buzz with the ripples in his head.
    The Jordan/Flight combo was a site to see from inception'87 up until '98. Both the players and the sneakers- one of the best tag teams to Ever do it.

    Air Swift.. point blank period.that shoe looks like PIP.I remember the crazy cartoon ad they have in SI Kids!they were spot on.Its just major IMO.

    Air Pippen I. It has to be. They were his shoes.
    If it wasn't the AP1, I'd lean more towards the first Air Max Uptempo, I owned the wht/blk/teal ones and I still remember them as the most comfortable basketball shoes I ever owned, so I guess that's why I'm bias towards those over the Uptempos that followed.

    It has got to be the Air Maestro II's. Reason being it was when Pippen played his first full season out of the shadow of Mike and showed that he too was a number one option. He had arguably his best season as a pro and won the All-Star MVP in them. Young people would not remember the hype that was made about his shoes in that game being all red but his stat line was sick! I vote Air Maestro II's for his lone season, almost MVP season, as the go-to guy!

    i knew the pip 1's would be number one in voting on this site because they are the possibly the dopest kicks he has(i actually prefer the flight light 1's or pip 2's) but like jordan rocking the 9's in his statue, the kicks scottie's statue sports should be from a pivotal or classic moment in his career like the posterization of patrick. maybe the statue should show him in a defensive stance because dude was a heck of a defender.

    When I think of Pippen, I automatically think of the Nike Air More Uptempo. Maybe I'm partial, but those are one of my favorite joints of all time. Now, can I envision a statue with that iconic big "AIR" look on it… probably not. I don't think that the NBA or the Bulls organization would really go for it. However, if we're talking strictly "what do you think", then I'd definitely have to go with the Air More Uptempo's. Can't wait for the re-release soon.

    EASILY, the air more uptempo. those are the best shoes scottie ever wore. everytime i wear mine out, people are like "those are the pippens, i remember those." when ever i wear some pippen 1's, people are like "what are those." almost EVERYONE knows the air more uptempo and how scottie wore them.
