NBDL Authorizes All Non-Adidas Branding Covered

There has been a slew of brand controversies of the years in the basketball arena. Last year, Michael Jordan’s son Marcus was in the middle of a brand controversy between Jordan Brand and Adidas; the latter is involved in yet another brand situation.

We have learned that the NBDL has ordered all non-Adidas brand covered. Seeing that the NBA has an official partnership with Adidas, the NBDL has given Adidas extra logo visibility throughout the NBDL arenas. “Players are obligated to wear adidas – which we provide – unless they have another shoe contract,” an adidas spokesperson who deals directly with the NBA confirms.

With that said, expect to see an abundance of taped-up Nikes, Reeboks and Converses, like the sneakers pictured above, during the NBDL games. What are your thoughts on this bold move by the NBDL? Click here to voice your opinion.

    @SamIAm its the newly redesigned ball the nba introduced a few seasons ago, but was heavily rejected by many of its players; so they returned to the original spalding balls. I guess the NBDL still uses them.

    As far as the covering up, I think it’s petty, but its a business so…

    adidas! pft they some sucks man they mite as well tell the spectators that if they are not wearing adidas appearal that they cant attend! man they are giving the players and th NBDL equipment thats what the sponsorship is, and what about the kats who do have endorsements with other companies? they are to cover their name and not gain exposure? adidas is still butt hurt over the whole lil MJ deal, get over it adidas! yall havent had a prime time name since Kobe! and now that Dwade boo booed on them they want to try and be more aggressive! please go find missy elliot and leave work on your contracts on the collegiate level

    Didn’t know that the players HAD to wear Adidas and were issued kicks by the company. I figured they had to cop their own kicks from Foot Locker or whatever.

    and this adidas thing is stupid. it doesn’t stop the players from wearing the other brands’ shoes. i guess it does allow only adidas three-stripes to be the only thing showing though…pretty smart by them but if i were one of the players this would only make me wanna wear Nikes even more.

    Adidas sucks and this isn’t gonna change anything. Nike = MJ, Kobe, Lebron, KD, Melo, CP3, David Robinson, Barkley, Pippen. Adidas = McGrady (done) Garnett (Done) Duncan (Boring). The only cool players from Adidas are Dwight, Rose and Josh Smith. Their kicks are boring and bulky. Booooo

    Adidas is whack! They take old Nike athletes and recycle them (Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan for example). Their shoes are plain and when they do add style they clutter the design with BS. Only Adidas I rock are shelltops and Basketball players have not worn those since Jerry West was on the court..lol.. The NBA needs to sign up with Nike and drop these foreigners. Can you imagine the retros on the court if they did…..aww man!

    This whole story line is Bulls**. First of all, Jordan’s son had got the approval before he committed to the school and second the NBA is a billion dollar industry, if they are worried about what shoes these guys are weraing then that says a lot about their integrity. These young men are trying to make it. The NBA already has. They did say that they have a contract with Adidas not trying to get one. Third, Nike is a better shoe and clothing maker anyway, that’s who should be trying to contract with just ask/look at the players feet that says it all ;)

    pathetic excuse to cover up the old capitalistic addage of ‘profit maximization’. adidas is just taking advantage of a practise that rules corporate america of bending and expanding marketing and ad rules in order to achieve a monopolistic grapple hold over a multi million business(multi billion in an active economy). can u blame them? nike can hide behind the fact that if situations were reversed, they wouldnt have to resort to taped up shell toes, but wit a marketing budget that rivals da GNP, they could afford the competition which actually further stamps their brand within basketball and most other sports. da nba is complicit in this but the only avenue the players have for protection is da Players Union whom i dont think includes and represents nbdl players. so, until these guys make it from da ‘FIELD’ into da ‘BIG HOUSE’ wit MASSA STERN granting access for da “PRIVILEGE” to realize their dreams, dont forget to pack ur duct tape. Sneaks, shorts, headband, duct tape; CHECK BALL!
