Reebok ZigTech Officially Unveiled

Reebok ZigTech

“Form follows function” has long been the golden rule of design. The Reebok ZigTech has proven that the policy applies to sneaker, too. The wave-inspired sole was met by a lot of readers wondering what the story behind the look was. Today, Reebok officially unveiled the technology with an explanation for the styling.

“Traditional energy return is focused only on the vertical impact of the heel strike,” said Reebok’s Head of Advanced Innovation, Bill McInnis, in a press release. “In contrast, ZigTech is designed to transfer energy horizontally along the zigs so the athlete gets that energy back in the forefoot.” Clearly, the ZigTech is designed for performance more than casual wear. Reebok claims the technology results in 20% less wear and tear on leg muscles like the shins and hamstrings. While the style may have to grow on you over time, it sounds like a lot of time and thought was put into the technology behind it. The first pairs go on sale March 11th for $100.

We’ll see if they can withstand the same punishment as the Asics Gel-Lyte 1140′s and still give you optimum support and comfort.

Running shoes in general teach improper running form. The Vibram Five Fingers are where it’s at if you’re a runner.

    • gary

What is proper running form? Sure, if you run with traditional running shoes on, it will lead to (minor) changes in your natural stride as compared with a bare foot; but, this is to be expected. After all, you don't catch a baseball the same way with a glove on as you do without a glove or hit a racquetball the same way with a racquet as you do without one (as in handball). Shoes are equipment designed to assist people by absorbing shock and reducing abrasion, among other things. As such, their use requires a specific technique.

If you consider proper running form to be the technique which allows for the fastest speeds or train the longest, I'm sure you'll find that all of the greatest milestones reached over the past 100 years, or so, have been set by people wearing traditional running shoes. In addition, Vibram Five Fingers simply don't offer enough cushion to absorb the impact of long-distance runners. So, if people are able to run hardest and longest with so-called "improper running form", perhaps it's not improper at all.

  • ian

It really is just A REEBOK TRACK SHOE replacing spikes for those swiggle or whatever.

  • Kemata Holt

JUST copped from finish line, had to get the window display because the shipment had’nt came. they are def comfortable, more than the lunarlites i got yesterday. Probably will only rock them to the gym though…

  • AIR MAX PENNY

Reebok is coming up with some NICE shoes lately. Right now I am wearing ALLEN IVERSON Answer XIII which I got for $19.99….pretty nice shoe.

  • Cha-Ching

Jus copped from the mall. Got the black upper/red bottom. Tried them on. Very light. Basically, when you make heal contact there is an instant cushioning burst to the front of the shoe. It makes a good walking shoe so far. May test them out at the gym over the weekend. They do have a freaky look. I would keep all outfits simple with these.

  • JBx23

whoever said these are more comfy than lunarlites is an idiot!!! really??? haha if u like em, cop em… but nike owns the world in running shoes. plus reeboks running shoes stopfeeling good after one month of hard running… i mean real running, not going to the gym and hoppin on a treadmill!

  • Game Over

had this for 3 months now for walking and jogging I say Im pretty impress by the performance of it, went over my expectation how it performs. Still comfortable and happy with it

  • Woody

Went to the mall just to look for a pair of running shoes and when I seen these I was blown away. I automatically knew I wanted them. After having the black upper/yellow bottom for two weeks I had to get the gray blue upper/neon green bottom for causal wear. I really like them, their light weight and stylish. Keep it up Reebok!!

  • Chuck W.

I run about four miles, four days a week and these are the best running shoes I have worn in years! As far as looks, they are progressive and people stop me all the time to look at them and say wowwww!
