Nike Zoom Kobe V – Deconstructed

Air Jordan Headquarters

The Nike Zoom Kobe V achieves an industry-wide feat with its petty weight-relative to that of a hooper-of a mere 10.6 ounces. You have probably read a little concerning how Nike designers accomplished this triumph. But have you seen it?

Here we have a deconstructed Nike Zoom Kobe V. The shoe has been dissected to reveal its intricate componentry. In this photo analysis you will see the seamless heat-bonded flywire shell, neoprene and mesh sub-layer, heel anchor, heel and forefoot zoom air bags, and midsole and outsole.

Do you have any more appreciation for the Kobe V now that you see how the puzzle assembles? Check all the photos after the jump and then hit us with your comments.

  • Culpry!

Pretty neat to see all these pieces, it’d be even better if they showed a manufacturing video clip of the shoes being constructed.

  • [3G]

I bet that was painful, but it would be coo to see more shoes deconstructed

  • Gabe

@ Culpry! I agree. that would be awesome

  • Jason

    awesome

  • MJSF

    kobe v still are trash

  • campmac

I personally still like the IV’s better. I think these V’s look a bit like tennis shoes

  • word is bond – thats whats up

itd be great if we could see the IV deconstructed so we could see how it evolved

  • word is bond – thats whats up

is the tongue made of the same torch stuff we saw in the AM1 and AF1 for this spring?

  • AFK24

man..these are garbage. not even a full length with pathetic design and cheap material.

  • NcBaller

Long Live The Kobe IV’s…….Long Live The Kobe IV’s

  • barry melrose

Have a strange feeling that the Kobe IV is a better shoe than the Kobe V. We will see.

  • andrelee

Appreciate the look under the hood.

  • ken a. bloom sr

    Tight!!!

  • my name sucks

you naysayers are seriously dumber then dirt.

you people cream your pants on shoes with no tech whatsoever, but these… the future of basketball footwear is hated on? Shows the lack of knowledge any of you have.

There’s a reason why none of you are nike designers! Cause none of you have the brains to build anything better.

  • fashion.junkies.united

a bunch of pieces of crap

  • d.knott01(detroit fresh)

nice to see whats going on with the shoe. i always wanted to deconstruct my kicks but never had the heart to, not even my beaters.

  • muellZ

    amazing

would that by chance happend to be the Torch technology on the tongue, but just in a hexagonal pattern?

  • andrew

The heel zoom is way way thicker than I imagined… I’ve seen the air bags they use in the running shoes and they’re half that thickness… can’t wait to try mine on, gonna be sweeeeeet.

Also, haters, you people need to wake the hell up. Seems like if you had your way there’d be nothing but AF1/Dunks/Jordan XIs to play basketball in. Shoe designers have to push the envelope with how the shoe looks and take inspiration from outside basketball because that’s how they learn and develop and ensure they are at the cutting edge of both design and injury prevention. Because that’s what sneakers are designed for – helping people play sport without getting hurt. The whole collector side of things is lucrative, sure, but it’s the primary goal to support feet in the activity they’re designed for.

  • NV

    No lunarfoam anymore?

  • dan

its good to see that the sneaker tech is getting pushed along, i know its hard to emilate what tinker hatfeild does with jordan brand but that looks like vomit put together, personally any shoe kobe endorses excluding the hyperdunk and the nike kobe 2 just look like crap, and no hes not the first ball player to have a low cut signiture shoe didnt some guy named gilbert arenas have a low cut shoe that sold out almost everywhere around the world, guys like kobe and lebron need to find their own ideas to endorse their names, documentrys of their high school career done already by sebastian telfair, writing books about their life, you can some it up on 60 minutes, beginning a revolution of low cut sneakers gilbert not kobe started that trend, this is not a diss on their game but this is a critism of stealing other ideas from other players

  • v

    @ dan…stfu

  • greenmaker24

    pretty cool

  • swill

I hated the look of these at first, but it’s starting to grow on me. It looks better worn to be honest. However, I think the lighter colorways will always look better on the IVs.

  • kiddcool

whyy da hell would u wanna deconstruct shoeez are yall really dat damn borred lol

  • Eroq

I got a pair of thee Chaos and they are way tight!!! I love the new Kobe V’s…. Light and cushiony, I’m killin’ fools

  • Flying Tank

Awesome, surely a collector’s item. With the many colorways, Kobe IV’s and V’s will be the next AF1 and/or Dunks. They’re light, comfortable, great for court, and the cut is perfect to wear with jeans…!!!
