Marcus Jordan’s Jordans Cost UCF adidas Contract

adidas has responded to the controversy surrounding Marcus Jordan’s decision to only wear Jordan Brand on the hardwood by cutting ties with the University of Central Florida short. The contract, which is in its final year of a five-year deal, will be preemptively ended following Marcus’ choice to wear the AJ12 “Rising Sun” in an exhibition win last night.

According to ESPN and the AP, “‘The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to adidas,’ adidas spokeswoman Andrea Corso wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. ‘As a result we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward.’”

We covered the Marcus Jordan controversy in-depth recently, but it looks like adidas has finally drawn the issue to a close. Is this what you expected to see go down in Florida? Consider that Marcus made it clear he intended to wear Jordans to honor his family name when being recruited and was assured it would not be a issue.

  • this guy says…

I mean the guys dad is Michael Jordan i would want to honor my family as well. Adidas made the right move as well as Marcus.

  • 666

    Seriously.

the people at adidas must be smoking crack if they thought he was going to play in their shoes. good for him for not caving.

  • jr_lyon

Wearing Adidas ankle braces with Jordan shoes looks whack!

  • bielasiak

well i wonder how long it’ll take them to get a deal with nike/jordan… I dont think Jordan will do it cuz I believe they ONLY sponsor UNC, but I’m sure it wont be a problem for the school to get a new sponsor

  • hootch magruder

you need to honor the team you play for and stop being a baby. all you little ghetto kid wanna be’s would know nothing about being part of a team because you have no life. He needs to quit being a little cry baby and be part of the team he plays for. 666 go back to your gutter trash family you low life.

  • FLASH

another spoiled kid SMH.. dont matter about the shoes as long as you can ball!! Are you guys sure this is Marcus Jordan? or Horace Grant Jr.?

  • cisc

JORDAN SPONSORS: UNC,CINCY,CAL N GEORGETOWN. & MARCUS WAS A FOOL FOR PUTTING HIMSELF BEFORE THE TEAM. I HOPE HE CAN SWING SOMETHING WITH HIS DAD TO HIT THEM OFF WITH PE’S FOR THE WHOLE TEAM AND GEAR AS WELL..GD’LUCK.

  • DownSouth4Eva

I don’t blame him. Especially if they ASSURED him that it will not be an issue. I wouldn’t dare go against my dad’s shoe regardless. Hell I bet the team would rather wear JORDANS anyway!!

  • Flatsole

    Cause I didn’t see this one comming….

  • Swanson

    @hootch magruder

I dont think being Michael Jordans son qualifies as being “gutter trash family” if i didnt know any better i would say your racist but im not here to judge.

but anyway He asked UCF if he could wear J’s before he even agreed to attend the school and they told him yes so that there fault for trying to pull a fast one.

I have to agree 100% with (this guy says)

and look at the bright side now there school will be sponsered by NIke !!!!!!

    I

  • david31956

Who cares he stinks anyway !!!

  • ton

efff that college players should wear any shoes they want…they don’t get paid anyways that’s stupid

  • DJ

Everyone needs to stop hating on marcus, none of our fathers is the greatest player of all time and if adidas told him it would not be an issue when they recruited him then it shouldnt have been an issue. When we played Jeff Jordan in highschool he was with reebok but when Marcus came along they all had jordan 9.5 PEs. Since the schools football team is sponsored by a different brand anyways it shouldnt be a problem to get outfitted by mike, he did it for marcus in high school, aau, and like 6-8 other colleges

  • Resident Hater

This dude got all these request and aint even won shyt….how many championships does he have under his belt huh

  • Mark Arriola paffy daffy

barata ampota bano naman yan si Marcus jordan

  • The Man Above The Man

If the school orginally told Marcus that it would not be an issue to wear Jordans, then the school cost itself the Adidas contract. The school and Marcus had an understanding while being recruited that if he went to UCF he would not wear the team sponsored shoe. So why is it Marcus being a baby and putting himself before the team if the team allowed him to wear what he wanted? If anything it is irresponsible for the coaching staff to put their sneaker contract at risk by recruiting a player who had no intentions of wearing Adidas. All parties across the board to blame!!!

  • JoeRod

why dont they start wearing Jordan brand, much better then adidas anyway. I’m sure Mike Jordan can give the school a sweet deal

  • th

Nice adias ankle brace – don’t sprain your ankle wearing those J’s

  • Jerronimo

NIcekicks Marcus. If my Dad was M. Jordan I would want to wear his shoes to. Adidas suck anyway. Only star player that wears them is KG and his kix are ugly. He should have stayed with nike.

  • Lem

If UCF already agreed that Marcus could wear his fathers shoes then it’s their fault that the contract wasn’t renewed. If it was that big of a deal they should have sat Marcus down and explained either you wear what the rest of the team wears or you don’t play. Period.

But his dad may come in and endorse the school anyway. Strategy. It’s all about strategy.

  • alky

JB will step in and do the right thing (scuse the pun)

  • b-radballa33

i think way too big of a deal is being made about a less than mediocre player

  • fashionjunkiesunited

jordan is his dad, id do the same thing even if i was on the bench it doesnt matter, ppl act like its a crazy demand for him, its not like he’s Jordans 3rd cousin, adidas is wack for basketball anyway stick to the facts

  • Couper_What_It_Is_Right_Now

Dispite what UCF told Marcous at first, what ever happened to being a team. Pre-Madona’s in the Pro’s I guess but in college, I don’t think so. Think about it, what if another player for UCF wanted to wear something other than Adidas or Nike do you thing they could get away with it, hall naw.

  • Sean

to the few people who are commenting on the ankle brace, not all safety equipment fits the same. i swear by nike’s on the basketball court, but i can’t wear their compression shorts. i wear under armour. when it comes to stuff like that, it’s better to be comfortable than anything else.

Nike or JB should just sponsor the school. it’s not like they won’t get any press.

  • JzeusTx

Adidas needs to stick to soccer…

  • 666

“666 go back to your gutter trash family you low life.”

oh the beauty of internet. only on here can you touch the nerves of people you’ll never meet!

don’t worry hootch, one day you will realize that no one has the same opinion on everything. If you need a tissue i’ll be more than welcome to supply you with one! honor the team? the logo in which you wear on your feet should not affect your bond with the TEAM and SCHOOL. Outside contracts as seen here are actually detrimental to the purity of college sports. you sir entitled to your opinion, but name calling only exudes your feminine qualities. perhaps you may be the one who lacks knowledge?

I’d honor my dad (if he were Michael,) before i honor another SHOE companies stupid contract. that has nothing to do with the team HOOTCHIE. get your facts in order.

  • Now

    not good.

  • http://nicekicks.com/members/jsnacks/ Jsnacks

If Marcus Jordan wanted to wear Jordans in college, then he should have gone to a school that gets its uniform supplied by Jordan Brand. But then again, he would actually have to be good enough to go to one of those schools, which he is not.

  • Blak426

hey hootch. how does it feel to be intelligently shat on. 666 is right, whether or not your school has a contract shouldn’t have any effect whatsoever on what goes on within the team. So I give a thumbs up to Marcus for sticking to his guns and not giving in.

  • d.knott01(detroit fresh)

DIDN’T KNOW THAT THE SCHOOL ORIGINALLY ASSURED HIM THAT ROCKING J’S WOULDN’T BE AN ISSUE. THAT’S THEIR FAULT COMPLETELY. MAKING A VERBAL AGREEMENT WITH ONE PARTY THAT IS CONTRADICTORY TO AN STANDING AGREEMENT WITH ANOTHER PARTY IS IRRESPONSIBLE. GOES TO SHOW THAT THERE WERE SOME ULTERIOR MOTIVES IN SCOOPING MJ JR. TRYING TO GET SOME FREE PUBLICITY. THAT’S CORPORATE AMERICA FOR YOU. OH, DON’T ACT LIKE YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT CA HAD SPILLED OVER INTO COLLEGE HOOPS.

  • opus138

@this guy says… — far too logical and thought-through comment for the internet. Please include slander and poor grammar in the future. Take a cue from ‘hootch magruder’. He obviously knows his internet etiquette.

  • opus138

Side note – I think UCF was brilliant in this whole thing. They got a high-profile (didn’t say ‘good’) player, set themselve up for all kinds of exposure with the Jordan name, they’re getting publicity, and will probably come out with a new equipment contract. Beautiful!

  • faraz69

marcus can just get his pops to endose UCF. no problem

  • word is bond – thats whats up

    You really can’t blame marcus
UCF promised him that he could still wear jordans when he visited the school

  • 90snikehead

Dude got on goggels lol sorry had to do it lol

  • VoodooRich

Hootch can stick to rockin P Millers or whatever garbage dude probably rocks.

  • Charlie Crisp

For all this Controversy, he’d better be as good as Horace Grant…

  • VinnyB

Marcus is garbage anyway. If he was any good he would attend a jordan sponsored school – apparently he ain’t good enough for North Carolina A&T either

  • Joe

Adidas agreed that Marcus could wear Nike’s at UCF when he was recruited….

Coincidentally they went back on their word right before basketball season and during the start of contract negotiations with UCF. They were trying to use it as a bargaining chip and UCF called their bluff.

Adidas is a POS company and atleast UCF is standing by their word.

  • Sugga

Other sources are reporting that UCF had agreement from Adidas that MJ’s son could wear the Nike’s but a high level exec overturned it last week.

This is not UCF ‘s or Marcus’ fault. They were told yes and now Adidas changed their mind.

  • frankie23

Seen him play in h.s., average @ best but his team Whitney Young was decked out in jordan brand from head to toe.His senior year they wore true flight pe’s. Im sure daddy can splurge a lil and sponsor the school for all sports since his son costed them sponsorship. He’ll just have to not go to the casino for a few days. lol

  • Randy

Here is the key to the ucf/adidas situation. Marcus Jordan is not even close to the first college player to wear a sneaker other than what his school was contracted to wear. Ucf knew of his intention to wear Jordans while they were recruiting him, that removes him from any fault in this. The Jordans he wore were logo neutral. The logos were only visible when you were right up on them. everything else he had on was Adidas. This was a power play by adidas that failed at a mid major program. Second rate move for a second rate company.

  • JP

UCF should cut Marcus cause he’s GARBAGE!!!!!!!!

  • BcUz-I-CaN

off of the actual topic, but those arent the GR rising suns. the actual release has a red jordan symbol on the tongue but his have a white one. i bet they are just some PE’s that look like the rising suns

  • Buckingham U. Badger

If I was Michael, I would teach Adidas a lesson and sponsor the Golden Knights PERSONALLY. Think about it, how much media coverage would that get not only the team, but the Jordan brand. It can’t cost all that much more than an ad-spot on national TV, and it would be EVERYWHERE.
And no, UNC is not the only brand sponsored by Jordan. (see St. John’s) so there should be no problem there.
Just my opinion, we’ll see what happens.
Oh, and the AJ12 Rising Suns are bananas!

  • wheresdalove312

i cant play ball in addidas. jordans & nikes anyday >>>

  • MJSF

UCF are dummies for letting Marcus boss up on them like that. Now they’ll be out 2M’s ’cause of their stupidity.

    ROFLMAO!

  • no way

i dont think any of you have ever been part of an ncaa basketball program, but it was really borderline absurd of him to even have an expectation of wearing anything other than the team shoe. Nearly every school has a set team shoe (or a choice of 2-3 shoes for players of different positions) whether they have a contract or they simply buy the shoes themselves. whoever commented saying that college players should be allowed to wear whatever shoes they want since they don’t get paid is obviously ignorant. having team shoes is beneficial to the player because they don’t have to buy the shoes, their school provides them with the shoes because if not they would have to spend close to $500 a year just on shoes to hoop in (a college basketball player will easily blow through 3 pairs in a season with alll the wear and tear of practice and games.) marcus jordan may have a personal unlimited stock of basketball sneakers but im sure most of his teammates do not. whether or not jordan brand sponsors the team now is a moot point. the school had a contract with adidas, marcus was a student athlete at that school, no decision should have had to have been made. if the rules were going to be bent, or broken as the case may be it is frankly unbelievable to me that it was for a freshman who has yet to even contribute to the program in any significant way. the real problem is that he chose his own personal interests over being part of the team, the fact that this selfishness actually cost his schools athletics department money as well makes it really unacceptable

  • greenmaker24

    um ok

  • bronxborn

i go to ucf now and was at that game. for you guys talking bout hes not a team player cuz he doesnt want to wear adidas and how ucf are dummies need to relax adidas suck point blank period and you cant expect ur teams to do well wearing horrible equipment! if marcus jordan wore adidas and went against his family name the same uproar would have occured. as him being a big contradiction jordan in adidas. from when he came it was stated what shoes he was gonna wear so its no surprise! most likely and hopefully nike will step up. if you have a person who feels limited by a certain shoe why force them to wear it when theres bettter shoes out there

  • NewJerseyGiant

They should of cut him from their roster. He will NEVER!! live up to his fathers hype and to top that off, UCF players rarely go to the NBA so why is this clown complaining about the school’s sneaker sponsor? Spoiled cry baby…….

  • Sneak-UH-Head

I SAY LET THE MAN WEAR WHATEVER SHOES HE WANT. IF ITS SO SERIOUS THEY SHOULD JUST CUT HIM FROM THE TEAM. PLAN AND SIMPLE

  • mcfresh

Some of yall sound so stupid saying that he’s spoiled for rockin his FAMILIES sneaker brand. And Adidas sucks ass in sneakers anyway,How many of you buy the new adidas BBall shoes anyway?…None. So chill,I’d rock some Jay’s over that anyway.

  • 666

i wonder what argument would have taken place had Jordan (the GOAT) caved in to all the BS of the NBA when they told him he couldnt wear the AJ 1′s…

I wonder what side you people would be on.

  • JackFrost601

Right is right and wrong is wrong, UCF was endorsed by Adidas and knew the rules about all athletes must wear Adidas, Marcus knew this before attending if not he is stupid. Regardless of the quality or style of Adidas UCF signed a legal contract that they had to uphold they did not uphold it so hey no more Adidas. If this was another kid and not Michael Jordan’s son no one one would care, if you want do it for another kid then dont do it for one regardless of who they are related to. Now UCF is stuck all because of one three star athlete, I hope this works for the best and they get a new sponsor that will allow Marcus to wear his J’s, UCF bad business move, Marcus Jordan be a responsible young man and follow the rules and quit using your father as your outlet to do as you please.

  • kingpeach14

The school did promise him that if he played for them there would be no issue conserning his shoes. So I blame this 100% on the school or whoever the hell told him he could rock J’s.

  • Mike Neo (UNDFTD7)

I thought MJ wanted to be signed by Adidas before Nike signed him in the 80′s.
He should know better that USF is a Adidas sponsored team.
Hence sending his son there rocking some J’s may seems personal.
Brand jordan taking over the sponsorship of USF may seems like a plot.
This might show that Macus is just a pawn of brand jordan.

  • alan lovedog

if he was that determined to not wear addidas shoes he shouldnt have been so stupid as to sign an addidas contract – and addidas shouldn’t have been so stupid as to sign either.
does he not understand the concept of sponsorship !?

  • jackson32

those of you who have supported Marcus in this decision fail to realize this contract Adidas had with UCF covers the ALL of the schools athletic programs, and not just the mens basketball squad.

  • jay billz

he didnt sign and adidas contract you apes. when he signed to play for UCF part of the agreement was that he could wear his fathers shoes. he is not wrong for the schools mistake in consenting that. the screwed themselves

  • Greg Smith

My daddy ,My daddy ,I don’t care who his daddy is ,team wears Adidas , he wears Adidas, that simple. I would have liked to seen Micheal tell Dean Smith he was going to wear something besides Converse back in NC, he’d still be on the bench!

  • RICKY

Yo daddy Mike is gonna outfit the whole school with nikes and jordans with one stroke of the pen, “WHERE DO I SIGN THANK YOU”. And we all know it.

  • JWatts

I def wouldnt wear any adidas over jordan’s. & if my dad is MJ. Marcus made the right decision on the that. Jordan Brand goin sponsor them I bet

  • Big Kejuan

    Marcus jordan sucks anyway.

  • nike town hero

yo marcus’s choice was his choice but personly id b damned if i wear adidas over js

  • vteccream

If my father was MJ I would only wear Js too.The article states Marcus made it clear he intended to wear Jordans to honor his family name when being recruited and was assured it would not be a issue. IMO it sounds like the University is at fault and not Marcus. BTW why is everyone hating on Adidas? Let me explain, MJ wore Converse in college, up until that point his favorite shoe was Adidas. Jordan never wore Nike’s up until signing a contract with them. It is important to note that MJ received an offer from the Nike camp and he still went back to Adidas and asked if they could match the offer from Nike. Why??? He explained he did this because he was loyal to the Adidas brand, however, they were primarily a Europen product and they did not feel he was worth it. IMO the Adidas brand would have been stronger than Nike. Remember the deals from McDonalds, Coke, and Gatorade after he signed with Nike. MJ benefited from these companies and so did they. Run D.M.C. may be the most famous people to rock the Adidas brand. No joke I think about them everytime I lace up my Superstars. I love Nikes but Superstars will always be DOPE too and deserve the same RESPECT!

  • Enough Talk

If Mike owned adiddas, will we have this problem?
