Nike Zoom Kobe IV

Nike Zoom Kobe IV

In front of the entire world on a live webcast, Nike and ten time NBA All-Star and current MVP, Kobe Bryant unveiled the Nike Zoom Kobe IV.  The shoe is Nike’s lightest basketball shoe ever weighing only 11.6 ounces, about 10% lighter than the Nike Hyperdunk.

As the game of basketball evolves, so too does the required equipment and footwear.  For his fourth signature shoe with Nike, Kobe worked with Eric Avar, Nike’s Creative Director of Performance Footwear, to create a lowcut shoe even lighter than the revolutionary Nike Hyperdunk.

In order to create an extremely light shoe that provides stability, cushioning, and the ability to perform at a professional level, Avar used Flywire in the upper, LunarLite foam in the forefoot, Zoom Air in the heel, and a full-length Phylon midsole.

The Nike Zoom Kobe IV will initially release in China beginning January 1, 2009, but will make its way to the US retailers in February contrary to information previously released.  At the conference, Kobe showcased the Nike Zoom Kobe IV in a handful of colorways that include a Home, Away, “Carpe Diem”, and special Christmas Game Exclusive that he will wear against the Boston Celtics December 25th.  Check out the colorways available to the public after the jump.

Update: We have added a video of Kobe Bryant unveiling the Kobe IV at Westchester High School in Los Angeles, CA.

These look quite promising. I was watching the webcast live and saw you on there. I heard “nicekicks.com” and I was like YO!

But back to the shoes, they look pretty nice and I agree with Kobe, most ankle injuries aren’t preventable. If you are going to land on a foot, a low or high top wont change anything.

  • rauls054

ME DONT LIKE I DONT LIKE KOBE OR THE SHOES :)

  • beantown617

aw i thought i was gonna be first for once aha but kobe damn all his shoes are starting to look alike these look like nsome bootleg hyperdunks.. better than lebrons ‘boots’

  • http://myspace.com/kydhiphopmusic Ikon Radio

I’m buying these for work. I worked in the Air Jordan 8 for a while but any shoe thats lighter than the Hyperdunk is a miracle lol! I can’t wait to see them in person to feel them.

And I’m not a Kobe fan at all. Lebron for MVP this year! If he doesn’t win it this year :( Something is wrong here

  • http://www.nicekicks.com Nice Kicks

I thought the Hyperdunks were light….wow. I really could not believe how light these shoes really were. I can’t wait to get a pair to test out.

  • jerry24

these will be the best basketball shoe of 2009!!!
    kobe mvp!!!!!

  • brennan

not to be redundant…but when the ‘black mamba’ colorway drops this shoe is copped.

  • pngmanki

I love kobe and im really curious to see how these’ll feel! 11.6 oz! 10% lighter than the Hyperdunk! You gotta be kidding!

  • T.H.U.G.

Of course it’s 10% lighter than the Hyperdunk. The Hyperdunk is a hightop. Chop off the top of a Hyperdunk and it will be 10% lighter too. The question is would you WANT to do this for balling? NO.

  • http://www.nicekicks.com Nice Kicks

    THUG,

We will be posting a video about the Kobe 4 early next week, but I think that the whole “basketball shoes require hightops” thought is pretty out of date with current tech that gives heel stability.

  • aalim

    mmmmmmmmmmmmm……………KOBE ME

  • JJD

id rock the carpe diems they are disgusting….look good with the right gear

  • http://none john

    OMG.

Anything lighter than HD is worth a shot.

My HD’s already outperform my expectations. I wonder if these would. It *might* take some time to adjust from the high ankle support of the HD to these low ballers.

Definitely must cop. If the release date in China is on time, these babies should arrive in Manila before the end of January.

That should start 2009 right. =)

  • TRUTH 4 U HATERZ!!!

I love the carpe diems. best colorway. hope they will be a general release!!!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/ezdoesitproductions Brandon

Now honestly when i saw these for the first time i thought they were ok… But now these joints to more are FIRE!!! Cant wait to see em up close!!! And for these LeBron nut huggers I just want to say he’s very overrated… and that Kobe and L.A. will once again blow them out of the competition… We already have witnessed… Need I say more???

    Ez-

  • kevin

thanks for posting this…and i was watching the live interview with kobe and i had the same questions as nicekicks with the hyperdunk hybrid so thanks for asking that question…you guys are on point with everything and you guys are everywhere

  • bourne

Kobe is playing with low tops now, it’s new to me.
I don’t think i would, might roll an ankle!!!

  • bourne

    to #4,

what about Dwyane Wade? u don’t think he’s MVP candidate so far, along with LeBron?

  • Yay Man Yae

YAE say yae-luv them Carpe Diem

  • bmmrboy

UGLY…oh and a low top so I would never use to play in

  • http://nicekicks.com steven

i still cant help but feel like nike does him dirty..ion undastand y kobes sneakers r always not nice..

even tho kobe is my #1 all time fav playa, lebron is takin mvp dis yr..

however dat digreses from my pt..nike is focusing on lebron james sneaker line more den kobe’s bc hes da future..thnk about it, right afta da accusal of dat rape shyt (which was bs), nike been droppin wack ass kobes..

i thnk da home joints r da best but dat doesnt make me wanna drop 130 on em kuz dat’ll b str8 up ridiculous..

  • john tor

best bball shoes ever, better than any jordans…

  • john tor

best bball shoes ever, better than any jordans.

  • SvenBlack

    @ 21.
I hear you Steven, but Carmelo gets some whack shoes as well and he hasnt raped anyone. With this shoe, Kobe Bryant is about to change the game. Nike just introduced the first low top basketball shoe and gave it to one of the greatest players ever. As long as Kobe continues to put up strong stats in this shoe I can see it being the start of a growing trend.

BTW the Carpe Diems will get acquired.

  • AltezzA

@22 and 23….wow bold statment!!! def not better than the 6s or 11s…..And Brandon ur a kobe nut hugger

  • T.H.U.G.

    #24 Svenblack,
Gilbert Arenas has had a lowtop signature shoe for YEARS so what the heck are u talkin about “Nike just introduced the first low top basketball shoe” whatever man learn your kicks.

  • DonBurgos

at first i was against the entire lowtop thing..but its true what kobe said..and these are actually pretty dope..thinking about copping..

  • SvenBlack

    @ 26.

who is Gilbert Arenas? Oh you mean that overpaid guy from Washington that wears Addidas. Never seen his kicks…never will.

  • http://myspace.com/kydhiphopmusic Ikon Radio

^^^^ Ouch!!! SvenBlack is going for blood on Agent Zero LOL!!!!!

  • tmax

to all you saying lebron gets better kicks than Kobe… Tell me this. Why does Kobe have nikes lightest baakeball shoe, and lebron has some hoopin Nike boots

  • to tmax

are you really so dumb?if lebron wanted to make the lightest nike basketball shoe,he could to that without eye blinking, instead he made excellent basketball shoe which you can wear offcourt.

  • http://nicekicks.com sneakervillan

This is a really good looking shoe, I’d wear these off court anyday.

  • aerodynamics

Will cop the Carpe Diems on release and another pair when it hits the outlets to ball in.

  • MrFan

    Beasty kicks.

  • deucess

cant wait to ball in these
anyone kno how much they gon run?

  • jhov259

    Kobes’ ankles R.I.P.

  • lilrip133

not a fan of lowtop basketball shoes at all, from a looks standpoint or a performance standpoint.

  • lilrip133

#4 dont leave chris paul out of the conversation.. ever. he’s accounting for close to 60% of his team’s offensive output, and over 2/3 of tyson chandler’s points are off of chris paul assists. that’s absolutely unreal. and dwyane wade should definitely be in consideration too so far. his numbers are through the roof and his team’s win column is gonna probably be the most improved from last season’s

  • WIZEGUY

low top balling kicks was never my cup of tea. if these were mids/ hi top, probably. these look more like chilling kicks

  • http://www.nicekicks.com Peter

the away joints are butter – but that logo is not a good look

  • MJSF

    clean shoe
    ugly cw

  • Suwoop

for the most part kobe comes out wih good kicks — iliked the kobe 3 especially but why in the name of all things holy did he make a low top shoe i like ballin in hyperdunks and kobe kicks but i dont want to break my ankles– thats the only downside low top kobes

  • fucdapolice

These are to classy to ball in. These could be the uptowns of the future. The all white ones are SMOKING.

  • hxxxx

All I can say when I see these is, “Tennis anyone?”

  • sneakerfittedguy

WOW. Wow. How can you people SAY that low-cuts are bad for ball when THE BEST Jordans to ball in are low-cut (14′s)? Comment 25 dunno his tingz, not mentioning 14′s with the best ball Jordans… those are almost a decade old and they are STILL a proper ball shoe… AYO, but technology these days is just so advanced that I honestly think the structure of the shoe wouldn’t matter. I’m sure that the smart people at Nike Basketball developing their shoes made a proper choice for a proper player. Kobe provides input, they provide smarts. What comes out is a good shoe made by smart people for a good basketball player.
As for this LeBron / Kobe argument, their style of play AND style of shoes are totally different. LeBron needs heavyweight shoes for his explosive style of play; with that in mind, the developers made a boot-like shoe with basketball technology. Kobe needs lighter shoes for his more finesse style, equalling some of the lightest kicks in the L. LeBron is young and hasn’t primed yet: he has TIME to develop and win rings like MJ or Kobe. Kobe is playing the best basketball of his career (without Shaq). He can turn up the heat whenever he wants, but not this year. Wait until the playoffs: that’s when he’s going to show everyone his FIRE. Heck, he’s not even trying right now and his team is still 1st in the league. Kobe has support around him; LeBron…could have a better team, and his situation is still improving, yet they’re already a REAL top contender this year (remember that year against San Antonio? What a joke. LOL).

It will be LeBron V.S. Kobe in the Finals, with Cleveland on top after 6 and LeBron (or Wade…what a surprise this year…BOSH) as MVP. Kobe just can’t come through without Shaw, sorry. Gasol isn’t enough…

  • Royshaun

    they are hot!!!

  • Donny D

bout time some1 break out with da mids. Sick & tired high tops. These kicks r fresh.

  • Quintin

These r hot! i’ll be copin sz14 baby!

  • Freddy

aww maan i think i’m in love..
i’ll be copping some home kobe 4′s, love the white.
and who cares if they’re low cut you gonna roll your ankle either way low top or high tops if you land on someones ankle.. beside i play in ASO ankle braces anyway so these kick are perfect for me.
lighter then the hyperdunks? now thats crazy
can’t wait to get a pair
    peeace!

  • Timbo

    INJURY waiting to happen
    Kobe WHY?

  • kb.aka.The 1

well say what you want? but i don’t thing Kobe or the Lakers would have him out there ballin out of control with t-shoes that can’t stand the RAIN??? and i really don’t believe Kobe would take such a great RISK in doing something that could possibly shorten his CAREER??? So in saying that? this t-shoe MUST have SUPERDUPER technology to keep the ankle stable? from what i’m hearing is that the inner cushion huggs your whole foot? but like anything we’ll just have to wait and see!!! i’m def gonna cop me a pair of each of the colorway’s. Hey Nike please drop’em already!!! hahahahahaha!!! PLEASE NO DELAY’S AND NO FREAKIN PUSH BACK DATES!!! i’m just sayin mmmaaannnn!!!

  • EezyVeezy812

I hope this works out with kobe.. they seem like some nice shoes but if kobe hurts his ankle in anyway that will hurt this shoe alot and bring out alotta “i told you so’s”…

  • Nduetyme

I have a pair of the Hyper Dunks, the technology that nike uses in their shoes is remarkable!!lightweight, durable, and made with the best material on the market. The KB4′s are only 11.6 ounces, that’s crazy!!!. I like all 3 colorways…..These joints will be aquired

  • Dhanta

I like it.. Im a big fan of kobe so any shoes that he puts out im gettin. but the hyperdunks r real light aswhile so i can image how light the kobe IV is goin to be..

    Comin Febuary cant wait..

  • Harry

Kobe always gets the best basketball shoes on the market. The Kobe 1′s were superb, comfy, the Kobe 2′s had the lock down strap and were also light, the Kobe 3′s were UGLY but still better than the others for balling in, and the Kobe 4′s are simple, light.

Lebron is a marketing King, but Nike used Kobe, not Lebron to bring out the revolutionary 2K4′s, Hyperdunks, and now, the lightest low-top balling shoes on the market.

  • http://www.nbadimensions.net rampage

Wow, these people sure are into kicks. Im a rich man, so i don’t do much of the research like i am now. I just buy all the new releases and try them on, if i like their appearance and comfort, then i keep them, if i don’t then they go to the trash were they belong or i just give them to a homeless.

By the way, Kobe 4 ever…

  • http://www.sneakerdemon.com SneakerDemon

They don’t release enough low-top sneakers these days. This one looks a little like a training shoe, but I’ll probably still cop it.

  • Alex

Dude those look a lot like some nike free training shoes.

  • hova26

SHM @ people who continue to hate on Kobe or even make asinine comparisons to LeBron. People, they have two completely different stlyes of play. I’m sure if Kobe was 6’8, 240, he would dominate the SG position the way LeBron has dominated the SF position. And even though his numbers are down from 2 years ago, that is only because he has some help now. Without the help, I’m sure we would have have more 50+ point games from KB24. SMH again @ people who also compare LeBron to MJ (aka the G.O.A.T). As good as LeBron is or will be, he will NEVER be the player Jordan was. KB24 is the closest thing we have in the league to an MJ caliber type of player. Not so much the marketability that MJ had, but the style of play, Kobe is the closest one. Similar to the comparison between Biggie and Jay-Z. Jay ain’t better than Big, but he’s the closest one.

  • max

im not a kobe fan… but this shoes rocks !!! cant wait to buy one..

  • john abrahamsen
