Nike Air Bakin’ “Cool Grey”

Nike Air Bakin' Originally released in 1997, the Nike Air Bakin’ has created a nice buzz with its re-release this past summer. As it continues to make its timely return, many colorways have and will continue to surface. The Nike Air Bakin’ “Cool Grey” mixes different shades of grey to form one of the best colors seen on this sneaker. They sport a cool grey mesh base and midsole with a light grey overlay.

Worn by Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond and Kevin Garnett at one time, these kicks are extremely cushioned, very durable and provide excellent traction in the form of a solid rubber outsole. This is not a basketball-specific sneaker, however, many people wear it as an indoor/outdoor hoop shoe.

Recently, we’ve spotted them in Footlocker stores and other urban accounts, so check your local retailers asap. Would you consider this a basketball classic?

^ that is a good question. I had to OG years ago, but no longer. I don’t know if that appeared on the originals or not. I have a feeling it stands for something else because I believe he was wearing Converse by the 1997-98 season.

    Interesting….thnx for responding.

I would consider these a basketball classic, but not because of the controversy during their original release.

What makes these a classic in my eyes in the smooth yet eccentric design…and this colorway takes advantage of that, with the different shades of grey.

    Great point dbowe4415.

Even with the shoe being pretty monochromatic, you can still notice how aggressive this design was. I wonder who was the mastermind behind this one actually…

I LIKE THESE… SHOW ME AN ALL BLACK VERSION, THEN WE’LL TALK…

  • orthotic

Of course it’s a freakin’ classic. Its just that people blown the whole “AIR” thing out of proportion. But yeah, the ones with the the OG colors especially stand out for me. But as for the retros, I’m passing like J-Kidd did on Nike haha.
