Patrick Ewing vs. Hakeem Olajuwon Footwear Faceoff

Two of the greatest to play in the paint were honored over the weekend by their induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Patrick Ewing and Hakeem Olajuwon both had storied careers in the NBA as well as in the Olympics, but each had some interesting times sneaker wise. Pat Ewing spent his early years wearing The Three Stripes but parted ways with Adidas for his own shoe line “Ewing” put together by Next Sports, but finished his career off with Nike. Hakeem “The Dream” entered the league wearing Etonic (yes, the same brand that makes your grandma’s shoes) but also laced up in LA Gear before having his signature $35 line with Spalding.

Etonic made an incredibly awesome red patent leather that Hakeem wore from time to time. Those are hands down his illest imo.

hakeem didnt car much about sneaker endorsments, not matter how much nike, adidas, or reebok threw at him $$ wise. but the Ewings were better. i know i had a pair.

Give me the Ewings! NY stand up! But I do have to agree, those Etonics are ill! I was soooo upset when I got a pair of Etonics in grade school instead of suede Clydes I wanted…Little did I know!

We rocked the Ewing’s hard and faithfully in Harlem…I need a few pairs in a sz. 13 right about now. Only Olajuwons I had love for were the L.A. Lights, But as a player. “The Dream” was a pure BEAST!!!

I had those Ewings back in the days, but in blue sway…they were crazy.
They were really comfy and i never got hurt playing in them.
No one wears these today so if they were to come back i’d be the first to buy them.
Talk about being original and unique…the young bucks of today don’t know nothing about these shoes….KRISS KROSS use to rock the heck outta the Ewings, i guess its a New York thing.
I use to love them, they are so SICK to me….i luv it.

Hakeem Olajuwon “The Dream” were my first basketball sneakers I dunked in the mid 80′s. Those were the days when basketball sneakers focus on comfort and protection for the ankles. I wish today they go back to the drawing board and make great sneakers again
